Jacob is carrying on with the Kelley family legacy of little boys getting attached to the lawnmower. We all remember how Uncle David couldn't settle down for the night without a "ride". Jacob isn't quite that passionate but it sure makes him smile.

While Jacob's party isn't until tomorrow, he did get a few presents today.

Love-A-Puppy

As we all know, Jacob is the sweetest little boy around. A great example is how he takes ample time out of every day to love his puppies. Pay no attention to the loud slapping noise near the end of the clip, that is just because Wrigley is fat.

First Steps

We were fortunate enough to capture a video of Jake's first steps (made with the help of a five-gallon bucket). He was so very proud of himself. He pushed the bucket all the way across the kitchen floor. I took about 5 video clips because he kept getting too close to me. Here is one:

9 Month Check-Up

All went well with Jake's most recent visit to the doctor. He behaved wonderfully and even did a few tricks (so big, waved bye-bye, etc). Most importantly, she still thinks he is perfect. He weighed in at 22 lbs. He is 29 inches long and his head circumference of 45.5 inches. All of his measurements are along the same percentile lines. The best part of the check-up was there were no shots, which means no tears!!

Also of note, Jake cut his third tooth. He now has the two front-bottom and the top left incisor. The doctor did mention that she thought she saw all four top teeth cutting. And Jake wouldn't let her see the bottom; he kept sticking out his tongue. But from feeling, I think the bottom two incisors are close as well. Hopefully, that is a viable explanation for his attitude lately.

6 Month Check-Up

Jacob's 6 month check-up was pretty mundane. The child weighs 18 lbs 6 oz, is 28.5 inches long, and has a head circumference of 42.5 inches. All of his measurements fall along the same lines on the growth chart. So he is growing symmetrically.

He had too much fun with the paper on the table. As the doctor came in the room, he was enthusiastically waving two handfuls of shredded, wet paper. As soon as she start to examine him, he tried to trade in a handful of paper for a stethescope. He was not successful.

Finally, he got three shots that he took like an absolute champion. He didn't get his flu shot yet because they were out. Hopefully, they will have more in the next few weeks.

Pretty simple. The kid is perfect. We go back again in January.

4 Month Check-up

Jacob had his 4 month doctor's visit yesterday. My little chub weighed in at 16 lbs (75th percentile), measured 26 inches long (80th percentile), and has a head circumference of 42 inches (45th percentile). He fell along all of the same lines on the growth chart as he did at his 2 month appointment.

He performed well for the doctor. He smiled and laughed at her. He did his best to play with all of the neat "toys" she put in front of him, though her intention was to look in his ears and eyes. However, he did not like the wooden tongue depressor and managed to gag with his mouth shut. When doc rolled him on his tummy, he not only played with the crinkly paper on the table, he shredded it to bits (and refused to let go when she picked him up). Much to Grandma Kelley's pleasure, the doctor actually said the words "he's perfect".

Then came the shots. This time he had one vaccine orally and one in each thigh. In contrast to his 2 month appointment, he took the needles like a champion. He cried with the second shot but the nurse said that one is a little thicker. But once Daddy picked him up, the world was good again.

We go back in 2 months and we are hoping for more of the same.
